Celebrating Literary Excellence by Ontario Authors at the 30th Anniversary of the Trillium Book Award!



OMDC is proud to present the Trillium Book Award, Ontario's premiere prize in literature celebrating our province's diverse writing talent for the past 30 years. Established to honour excellence in prose and poetry in both of Canada's official languages, the award is open to books in any genre. This has meant a rich, diverse range of fiction and non-fiction titles have appeared on the yearly shortlist. This year is no different.

On June 20, 2017, OMDC’s President and CEO, Karen Thorne-Stone, OMDC Board Chair, Mark Sakamoto, and emcee Heather Hiscox hosted the award ceremony where Eleanor McMahon, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports celebrated Ontario’s wealth of Literary talent and announced the 2017 Trillium Book Award winners.

OMDC Welcomes Two New Board Members

OMDC welcomes two new BOD members Ron Hay and Kiumars (Kiu) Rezvanifar.

Ron Hay is a founding partner of the entertainment law firm Stohn Hay Cafazzo Dembroski Richmond LLP.

He is a graduate of the U of T’s Faculty of Music and Osgoode Hall Law School.

Before law school Ron was a professional violist, first with the Canadian Opera Company and then the Toronto Symphony, and during that period he was an active studio musician. 

He’s a board member of Trio Arkel Chamber Music Group and the Health Arts Society of Ontario, and a former board member of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (Board Secretary) and Volcano Theatre.

 

Kiumars (Kiu) Rezvanifar is the founder of KVC Communications Group specializing in communications and broadcasting.

Since 1993 he has been the Executive Producer of Iran Zameen TV and Pasargad TV on OMNI TV. These programs serve the Iranian Communities across Canada.

Kiu is also the publisher of Persian Tribune Magazine, the first English language publication targeted toward the second generation of Iranian Canadians.

Besides being a documentary producer, Kiu has also served as a board member with various organizations such as United Way of York Region, Ontario Media Development Corporation, Iranian Canadian Cultural Fellowship and York Region Police Integrated Strategic Community Advisory Council. He is also involved with CNEA and Toronto Police Services.

Kiu has been a board member of the Canadian Ethnic Media Association, where he currently serves as a President.

In June 2017, he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Canadian Journalists For Free Expression (CJFE).

Kiu has been the recipient of Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal and the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal for his contributions to his community and Canada.
