Panels:

The Entertainment Equation

  • Data mining and analytics were once relegated to the back-office of marketing firms.  Today, they are the backbone of new media.  Savvy companies are leveraging analytic software tools to predict audiences for content and effectively measure social media campaigns to better shape messaging and direct online traffic.  Decoding what is driving discussions and downloads will help entertainment firms create, market, and sell content.

Angels and Hackers: The New Wizards of Financing

  • Incubation hubs are now sprouting up across the country.  The new centres of innovation are attracting angel investors and venture capital players who are increasingly interested in the digital entertainment ecosystem.  Gamers, online music firms, and e-book start-ups are securing seed financing from unlikely sources on Bay Street.  In addition, social media strategies and new approaches to crowd sourcing are increasing being leveraged as alternative ways to raise funding directly from the consumer.

The Frontrunners

  • Canadian firms are pushing the entertainment envelope.  From location-based gaming to cloud sourcing footage for music video clips, this panel will showcase the digital media firms on the cutting edge of technology and consumer needs.

Disruptive Consumption

  • How is the use of mobile and tablet devices changing the way we consume content?  The trends are surprising – and ever changing.  To be sure, more people are consuming games, movies, music, and books on tablets and mobile devices.  But there is also a growing trend of double-dip consumers: people who use multiple devices in tandem.  Over 38% of the people who watch TV or listen to music are also surfing on a mobile device or tablet.  The audiences’ desire to cross-consume suggests a convergence between pure content plays and information.
