OMDC’s IFF Celebrates 10th Anniversary during TIFF

The 10th annual OMDC's International Financing Forum (IFF) featured 37 official feature film projects being pitched by 56 high-caliber producers. Over 800 meetings and round tables were scheduled and booked for more than 40 international industry executives, including first-time attendees: Amazing Studios, Fox Searchlight, Vimeo Films & YYZ. Returning executives included: Participant, Film4, Film Nation, William Morris Endeavour, ICM, and The Match Factory. Other events included a producers meet-and-greet dinner, an opening reception that included international industry execs and IFF alumni, and a networking business luncheon for 100 VIP guests.

To date, over 60 of OMDC's IFF projects have been financed including: Book of Negroes, Citizen Gangster, Midnight's Children, The Husband, The Whistleblower, Coriolanus, Animal Kingdom, My Foolish Heart, The Colony, Born To Be Blue, Wadjda, Hector and the Search for Happiness, and the Oscar-nominated, Incendies.

The 6th Annual PLT Co-Pro Forum between Canadian, European, Australian, and New Zealand Film Producers

The 6th edition of Producers Lab Toronto (PLT) was presented by the OMDC together with European Film Promotion (EFP) and the Toronto International Film Festival® (TIFF) from September 9th-12th, 2015. PLT brought together 24 experienced producers from Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand as a networking event to promote the development of international co-productions during the Toronto International Film Festival.

Canadian producer participants included Simone Urdl, known for her long association with Atom Egoyan (The Captive, Cannes 2014), and Chantelle Kadyschuk of No Trace Camping, Canadian producers of Room, the Canada-Ireland co-production that won the Grolsch People’s Choice Award at TIFF 2015.

The intense three-day forum included pitching sessions, one-on-one meetings, expert panels and case studies. In addition to meeting with each other the participants heard from and networked with industry professionals such as OMDC’s Karen Thorne-Stone, Jennifer Blitz and Kristine Murphy, Telefilm’s Stephanie Azzam and Sandra Karr, Simon Perry of ACE and Film Vast, NZFC’s Dave Gibson, Richard Harris from Screen Australia and Noemi Ferrer from the Danish Film Institute. Additional guest speakers included Casting Society of America president Richard Hicks; and producers Jay Van Hoy of Parts and Labour and Daniel Beckerman of Scythia Films, who delivered a dynamic case study of Sundance break-out film ”The Witch”.

To date, PLT has seen the completion of several trans-Atlantic co-productions, with a number of projects in development amongst PLT alumni.

The international co-production forum is organized and financed by European Film Promotion (EFP) in collaboration with the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) and the Toronto International Film Festival®. Returning supporters included: Screen Australia and the New Zealand Film Commission (NZFC) along with Creative Europe – MEDIA Programme, the participating EFP member organizations, Eurimages, and Telefilm Canada.
